ADELAIDE

Practical Close Quarters Combat and self-defence training in Adelaide, combining proven training principles with a progressive approach to developing awareness, defensive skills and confidence.

WHAT IS CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT?

Close Quarters Combat (CQC) is a practical approach to personal protection, drawing on techniques and principles from martial arts, military close-combat systems and defensive tactics.

The Integrated Combat Systems (ICS) approach focuses on developing awareness, effective movement, control and practical defensive skills for close-range situations.

At MINDSET Self-Defence & Close Quarters Combat in Adelaide, training follows a progressive, structured approach that accommodates beginners and those with previous martial arts experience. The emphasis is on developing skills, sound judgement and confidence through practical instruction.

BORN FROM COMBAT

Close Quarters Combat has its roots in practical military and defensive training, where techniques needed to be effective at close range, often in confined spaces and rapidly changing situations. Its development has drawn on principles from various martial arts and combat disciplines, with an emphasis on efficiency, adaptability and control.

Integrated Combat Systems builds upon this practical heritage, bringing together complementary training methods within a structured and progressive system. Rather than relying on a single technique or martial art, ICS develops an understanding of distance, positioning, balance and timing, helping students build practical skills and make informed decisions in challenging situations.

THE ICS SYSTEM

Integrated Combat Systems (ICS) is led by Head Instructor Peter Sciarra and operates from its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia.

Under Peter's leadership, ICS has developed a structured training syllabus that draws on principles and techniques from a broad range of martial arts and close-combat disciplines.

The system emphasises technical development, adaptability and the practical application of skills, providing a consistent framework through which students and instructors can continue to develop their abilities.

The ICS system is taught by qualified instructors across Australia and New Zealand, with ongoing training and professional development helping maintain consistency in instruction and technical standards.

In Adelaide, MINDSET Self-Defence & Close Quarters Combat delivers ICS training under the instruction of Charlie Riley, a Level 10 ICS Master Instructor.

Students benefit from an established international training system combined with personal instruction that considers their individual experience, abilities and training objectives.
